You are in the office, tired, frustrated and almost ready to call it a day. And then the phone rings... It is for your colleague who has gone out for a few minutes...
Client: May I speak to Mohan, please?
You: He is not here. (and bang goes the phone)
Your colleague comes back and wants to know whether there has been a call for him. You nod your head but have to answer that you don't know the name of the caller. This could be quite frustrating for your colleague and the same thing could happen to you the next time when you get an important call in your absence.
Remember that you are working for the company and not doing each other personal favours. So, what does one do?
Client: May I speak to Mohan, please?
You: I am afraid Mohan has gone out for a few minutes. May I know who is calling?
Client: This is Ritu from XYZ company.
You: Could I have your contact number so that I can ask him to call you back? He should be back in another ten minutes.
Client: Sure. It's 42318980.
You: 42318980?
Client: That's right.
You: Thank you for calling. I will ask Mohan to call you. Have a nice day.
Client: You too.
You have got the right information and therefore work will get done. Life is much more pleasant this way and you also get the satisfaction of having done your job.
Tips:
1. If you see someone running towards the lift when you are inside the lift, have the courtesy to press the button and wait for the person.
2. If you have to walk down just one flight of stairs, avoid using the lift during peak hours.
3. Don't talk about your boss or your personal problems while in the lift. You never know who might be listening!

This shows how important it is to start a phone conversation. It is important to introduce
our self before starting the actual conversation. And thanks for giving those useful tips. That really helps and makes a lot of difference.
